Raw Food Trail: Day 18

Detox and Weight

Today i am up .5 pounds from yesterday for a total lose of 10 pounds since the start of this trial.
I felt great today.  A little bit of a running nose but otherwise great. My focus was still not the best, but i seemed to do a lot better when i was spending time being active.  Doing active tasks like vacuuming or cleaning or food prep, i could focus on without any issues.  Because of it, i tried a lot of new stuff today!  It was awesome.  My family really enjoyed the change in food.
All day my hands smelled like soy sauce and lemon.  I went to the gym and did laps for an 45 minutes, it was the first time all day my hands did not smell like food.  It was kind of nice.  Of course i came home, and my hands squeezed lemon, marinated veggies, and made smoothies, so my hands are back to smelling like food.
I did not feel dizzy or light headed at all in the morning.  When i got out of the hot tub, i temporally felt a little light headed, but it pasted very quickly.
My feel very dry today, probably because of all the food prep.


Today, i was not hungry towards the beginning of the day.  I got really hungry around lunch and had a light dinner.
I made juice this morning.  I got some carrots with the tops still attached.  I mixed some pear and apple with it and it was good.
I then had another one of the typically morning smoothies of strawberry, banana, spinach, vitamineral green, and protein powder. i am so addicted to these.

I also mixed some cacao powder with agave and made it into almost a paste (in the picture above, this paste is in the bowl).  I put some on a banana and it was a little strong for me.  So i grinned some nuts, added a little coconut oil, and some fresh made almond milk and create these insanely yummy cookies.  I had to stick them in the freezer for a few minutes and they got nice and hard outside and gooey chewy inside.  perfect.

Also, it was my first time making nut milk.  It was very good.  I see lots of ways to use this in the future.  I added some chocolate and cinnamon and some nutmeg to some of the almond milk to see if i could make a decent chocolate milk treat.  It was ok, but not great.

I then decided to try making some marinated veggies.  I put carrots, mushrooms, cucumbers, spinach, kale, cabbage, celery, onion, zucchini, asparagus, and broccoli into a big ziplock bag.  I added soy sauce, red wine vinegar, garlic, pepper, cayenne, and some tomato basil marinara.  yummy.  I let it marinate for a couple hours turning it every 30 minutes or so.  This was such a hit, i have made 3 more batches today.

For lunch i had a couple of those chocolate cookies, a tomato and avocado veggie plate, and some of the marinated veggies.

For dinner, more marinated veggies, and another tomato and avocado plate.  After i got back from the gym, i was hungry.  I drank a bunch of water, but i was still hungry.  I had 2 bananas and that hit the spot!

Day 18

The last 18 days have been an interesting roller coaster.

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day.  I’m quite fond of this holiday and many of my friends are too.  Usually, I go over to a friend’s house or out to the pub and have a beer or two.  Yesterday, my plans were for the latter.  It dawned on be about a week ago that I wouldn’t be able to drink on St. Paddy’s, and I was bummed, for it only comes once a year.  So, last night when I went I felt a little weird to say no thanks to the offer of a pint.  Most people in our group  did not know about the 30 day trial.  While not drinking at the pub was a bummer, I liked the fact that reinforced my belief that while beer is awesome, I don’t need it to have a good time.

In terms of my detox, I’d like to think it’s complete, but to tell you the truth I haven’t a clue.  My cravings are still lurking about and getting stronger.  The result is that I have resorted to counting down the days until I can have a a burrito, more specifically Chipotle.  I must admit that it did not help that I was outside a lot today in a place surrounded by restaurants that smelled really good.

I’ve discovered something interesting today, but have yet to access its meaning.  If I eat a chunk of raw onion, I get sick to my stomach.  I do not believe this to be an allergy, because I eat food with onions in them all the time and don’t have a problem.

In honour of St. Paddy’s Day, I give you a drinking joke:)

There was this little guy sitting in a bar, drinking his beer, minding his own business when all of a sudden this great big dude comes in and — WHACK!! — knocks him off the bar stool and onto the floor. The big dude says, “That was a karate chop from Korea.” The little guy thinks “GEEZ,” but he gets back up on the stool and starts drinking again when all of a sudden — WHACK!! — the big dude knocks him down AGAIN and says, “That was a judo chop from Japan.” So the little guy has had enough of this… He gets up, brushes himself off and quietly leaves. The little guy is gone for an hour or so when he returned. Without saying a word, he walks up behind the big dude and — WHAM!!!” — knocks the big dude off his stool, knocking him out cold!!! The little guy looks at the bartender and says, “When he gets up, tell him that’s a crowbar from Sears.

    The raw food pictures are great. Nearly great enough to convince this omnivore to try it for a while. The cucumber-tomato-avacado goodness has invaded my diet to my delight. I can’t get enough of the stuff.

    oh, thanks for reminding me of that Bill! i am going to have to make some more of that. i have not had that in a while and it does look good :)
    You would love the chocolate nut things. homemade dark chocolate and nuts. it has my mouth watering just thinking about. The first time i made it, i thought to myself that you would love it. I will make a note to make some for you next time i see you!
