Raw Food Trial: Day 11

Detox and Weight

My cough is almost gone! Yippee!  I am still have a little bit of congestion but that could be due to detox.
I felt pretty good today and managed to get quite a few things done.
My weight stayed the same as it was yesterday for a loss of 9 pounds since march first.
I am sleeping just great.  My focus still leaves much to be desired as does my modivaton.

Raw Food Guru

I met with a wonderful lady named Patti.  She is a raw food chef in the bay area in California. Thru her website she offers catering, raw foods, classes and more.

I got to go to her kitchen and spend some time talking to her.  She had at least 20 dehydrators, and i saw vitamix blenders, cuisinart food processors, and barrels of nuts.  She gave us these chocolate cookies that were out of this world.  I was curious where she got alot of her ingredients and she explained she buys straight from farmers.  In this area, Whole Foods (a whole food grocery chain), carries her raw chips.  I also became addicted to something she called facon which is raw eggplant bacon.  It was amazing and addictive and i wanted to sit down with a 1000 pieces of it and just munch away and only eat that for days. :)

Since i had gotten this icky lung cold, i have been neglecting to do my normal workouts.  Today, i felt good enough to go.  I did an hour aerobics class with my heart rate in my aerobic range for the entire 60 minutes.  I did 30 minutes of stretching before, and about 10 after.  It felt great to lose and limber and moving again.

This morning i got hungry around 11:30.  I made a new smoothie, that was amazing.  Everyone loves it even my mother who does not care very much for banana.  It is, banana, strawberry, spinach, vitamineral green, and sun warrior vanilla protein powder.  I love banana so i usually put more banana then strawberry in, however, today i put more strawberry in and it quickly became a hit.  I made it 3 time today, and even now, shortly after midnight, i was asked to make it again.

For lunch, i used a raw food from Patti.  She gave us raw veggie burgers and raw leather bread.  The veggie burgers had bell pepper in them so i could not eat them, but mom and lindsay enjoyed them.  I served with with Patti’s cashew mayo and tomato.  For mine, i put thick slices of tomato and thin slices of avocado.  Amazingly good.  Loved it.  We also tried her zucchini hummus.  Now, i have to admit.  I love hummus.  And i could not see how it could be anywhere near as good as the beans version i usually made on my vegan diet.  However, it was out of this world.  Here it is served with broccoli for lindsay, carrots for me, and both for mom.

As a sweet treat after, we had chocolate moose.  It was a very rich chocolate flavor, however it did not taste like chocolate moose.  It was very good and i enjoyed it alot and i would love to eat it again.  It served to me as a reminder that raw foodist might name things the same (raw lasagna, raw mashed potatoes etc) but that they really are very different and very good in its own right with out being compared to “normal” food.

For dinner, i made huge veggie plates for everyone.  It was very good and very satisfying.  We had a little more hummers which added alot to the meal.

I did almost no snacking today (except a piece of facon) and felt great most of the day.  11 Days down!  I wonder what the rest will bring!

Lindsay has yet again written about her experiences.

Day 11

As of today we are now over 1/3 of the way complete and I am finding myself in a interesting position.  I’m not sure that I want to stay raw food vegan, but I’m not sure I want to go back to the way I was before.  I say this fully realizing the fact that we still have 20 days left and that there are lots of choices between the American omnivore that  I was and the raw food vegan that I am.  One interesting thing is that while I still kinda miss Chipotle, I’m not going nuts at the thought of not having it for a bit.  I’m curious to see how my food choices will shift when this is complete.

Adrienne and I tried a new workout class today, Zumba, at our local fitness club.  Adrienne was familiar with Zumba, but for me it was new.  While it kicked my ass, I enjoyed it quite a bit as I love to dance.  I plan on going back.  The class did point out to me just how completely out of shape I am, even though I hate to admit it.  I used to be pretty good at getting my workouts in on a regular basis, but I have gotten sloppy.  With this realization I have decided that I need to correct this.  I’ve also began to wonder where else in my life I’ve been getting sloppy, so that I can address it, too.

Adrienne made a green smoothie today that was marvelous, fantastic, and awesomeness  through a straw…fantastic.  She was kind enough to show me how to make it, so that I can make them for myself in the future.  With this smoothie I’m sure I’ll get better at having green smoothies everyday.  For breakfast I had oranges (what a shock, huh?).  For lunch we tried the raw burgers that Patti gave us to try.  We had them on onion bread with cashew mayonnaise and tomato.  While they were not my favourtie, it was good.  I did have Patti’s hummus on the side with some broccoli.  Now, I thought I made pretty good hummus, and while I still my mine rocks, Patti’s is out of this world.  It was so good I had some for dinner too.  As for the rest of dinner, it consisted of sliced avocado and some sliced tomato.  I loved it, and as Adrienne said, “Some of the best meals are the simplest.”

My hands are still pretty dry as is the rest of my skin.  I tried some of this stuff that Adrienne had that was made out of vegetable oil.  I put it on last night and it made my hands feel great this morning, but didn’t last all day.

Thanks for reading and as promised I have a joke for the guys today ;) :
