10 day Detox

For about the past 6 months, I have become very interested in doing a detox program. I scoured the net for programs and reviews and found a couple that looked reasonable and had a lot of awesome user testimony. Most of the detox programs I found were actually colon cleanse and heavy metal cleanses. While both of these look interesting and I may do them at another time, I was really looking for a liver and body detox.

I didn’t really find a program that fit what I was trying to do that had good reviews. So about a month ago, I let it go and just kept my ears open.

A couple weeks ago, I was at my chiropractor and she was mentioning how she loves to do a detox at the beginning of every year. It turns out, she runs a program at the beginning of every year for 10 day detox. I inquired for more information and quickly found myself signed up.

The Detox plan

The basic idea behind the plan is to eat mostly organic fruits, veggies, and brown rice. There is a list of foods that are not ok, most of them are high allergy foods or highly acidic foods. Since I am a vegan, I eat a lot of this stuff anyway. The biggest thing I have to cut out is lentils, tortillas, black beans, mustard, and grains. I don’t expect the food regime to be difficult for me.

There are quite a few different powders to choose from. My chiropractor asked me  some questions and recommended the best one for me. I also have to take a pill when I drink the powder. Not everyone has to take the pill, I guess I am pretty toxic :) I expect having to down a gritty powder by itself could be very difficult for me. I don’t like anything flavoring my water (not even lemon). I did ask and was told that I can mix it in a blender and make a smoothie out of it. I have been having banana smoothies for breakfast everyday for weeks, so I don’t think I will have an issue trying to get down a smoothie.

Common Detox Symptoms

There are many potential detox symptoms including:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Sleeplessness
  • Muscle/joint pain or soreness
  • Dry/itchy skin
  • Foggy brain
  • Runny nose
  • Going to the bathroom often
  • Lack of focus
  • White tongue

According to my chiropractor, the detox symptoms usually run most people about 5 to 7 days. People who do detoxes 3 or 4 times a year, often find that the detox period is only 2 or 3 days. After the detox period, most people report feeling significantly better.

My goal is to log my progress for anyone who is interested in reading it. It is a 10 day detox program. So I will probably blog most if not all of those days and to make a conclusion as to if this detox plan is helpful. I plan to start on Friday morning which is February 1st.

  1. Great thing to do for your health. Many natural health practitioners say that the best time to detox is springtime. But I think most people get the inclination to detox at the beginning of the year and feel they need to get on a better diet afterall that rich food and drink over Christmas.
Will follow your detox experience with interest.

  2. Good practical info – thanks.
